PPCRV chief eyes 400K volunteers for May polls

Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) chair Henrietta de Villa on Wednesday encouraged the public to sign up to become their volunteers in the May elections. While she did not say that they have a shortage in volunteers, De Villa said they are targeting some 400,000 volunteers to be poll watchers in the country's first fully-automated elections nationwide. "Ang usual time na pag-register ng volunteers, it would be now up to March. Mapupuno namin yung pangangailangan na up to 400,000 volunteers (The registration period starts now and ends in March. We will be able to gather the 400,000 volunteers needed)," De Villa said. She did not say, however, how many volunteers the PPCRV currently has.

Those interested can drop by the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) office in Pius XII Catholic Center along UN Avenue in Manila. The public can also contact them at 5242855 and 5215005, De Villa said. The PPCRV had likewise set up an online registration form for would-be volunteers. In Wednesday's interview, De Villa said that their preparations for May's elections are two-pronged: voters' education and volunteers' training. The said preparations are underway, she added. "Sinasabi namin (sa voters) na pag may taint of corruption, huwag nang pagka-abalahan (We tell voters not to even consider candidates who are tainted with corruption)," she said. - Sophia Dedace/RSJ/LBG, GMANews.TV
