Noynoy supporter gunned down in Pampanga

A supporter of Senator Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III in Pampanga was killed Wednesday night allegedly due to politically-motivated reasons, his camp said Thursday. Marciliano "Bong" Dizon, a volunteer and a coordinator for the Noynoy Aquino for President Movement (NAPM) based in Mexico town, was shot dead in the provincial capitol of San Fernando City by unidentified assailants. A statement from Aquino's camp said the 45-year-old Dizon had attended a wake with Sandy Quiwa Bansil, NAPM chief of operations, when shot. The statement quoted Bansil as saying that she heard gunshots a few seconds after Dizon stepped out of the house. Dizon was an active recruiter for the LP who “worked hard to get candidates on our side, but was frustrated because it almost always happened that the candidates would join NP or Lakas at the last minute," Bansil said. Bansil said Dizon managed to convince one congressional candidate to join the LP, earning the ire of an incumbent local official from an opposing party. "Malakas yung possibility na politically motivated talaga dahil sa trabaho namin (There is a strong possibility that his murder was politically-motivated because of our job)," Bansil said. Aquino said that Dizon's murder showed that the government's efforts against election-related violence were lacking. "I strongly condemn the senseless murder of Bong Dizon and challenge the authorities to immediately arrest the perpetrators of this crime, bring them to the bar of justice and forestall more election-related incidents," he said. - Johanna Camille Sisante/KBK, GMANews.TV
