Magnitude-5 quake rocks southern Luzon


A magnitude-5 earthquake rocked parts of Southern Luzon before dawn on Sunday, but state seismologists said there was no initial report of damage to property. Radio dzBB cited initial reports from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology saying the earthquake was tectonic in origin. It said the earthquake was felt at intensity 2 in Puerto Galera in Mindoro Oriental; and in Alabang, Muntinlupa City in southern Metro Manila. The United States Geological Service said the quake was felt at 3:53 a.m. and the epicenter was traced 30 kilometers southwest of Batangas; 40 km west-northwest of Calapan, Mindoro; 120 km south of Manila; and 155 km south-southeast of Olongapo, Zambales. — LBG/NPA, GMANews.TV
