Child dies, 3 hurt in Manila's slum area fire

A child was confirmed dead while at least three people were injured in the fire that razed 100 houses in a slum area Manila's Baseco compound on Saturday night.

Radio dzBB's Manny Vargas on Sunday reported that authorities described the fatality, who was not immediately identified, as about six years old.

Manila Fire Department head Chief Inspector Bonifacio Carta also said that at least three people were injured while trying to save their belongings.

The three were initially identified as Jesus Litado, 17; Ruben Desolo, 24; and Rechita Saleleng, 32.

Initial investigation showed the fire razed at least 100 houses at the Gasangan area in Barangay 649 in Baseco Compound in Manila.

The fire reached Task Force Delta before firefighters were able to put it out.

Arson investigators cited initial reports indicating the fire started at the house of one Eric Lacay at 9:47 p.m. - LBG, GMANews.TV
