19 killed in weekend road accident in Zambo Sur

(Updated 11:01 a.m.) Nineteen people were killed in a road accident in the southern province of Zamboanga del Sur over the weekend, police said Monday morning. In a text message, Region 9 police head Chief Superintendent Angelo Sunglao said that about 9:30 a.m. last Saturday, a Fuzo green truck (GGU-228) overturned in Kapatagan village in Vicenzo Sagun town. About 45 passengers were thrown from the truck, Sunglao said. Thirteen died on the spot while four others were declared dead on arrival at the Margosatubig Regional Hospital. Senior Superintendent Ramon Ochotorena, Zamboanga del Sur provincial director, said two more died after being transferred in Pagadian City. A report on dzXL radio cited initial police report identifying some of the fatalities as Artemio Dagooc, Atelina Gunsinas, Alcala, Gundinas, Morino Dragon, Merlinda Tolibano, Sulpicio Sarabia, Algoro, Melyn Urcal, and Pilapil.
