Arroyo appoints Limcaoco as acting press secretary


President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has appointed Conrado "Dodie" Limcaoco Jr. as acting press secretary following the death of Cerge Remonde, radio dzBB's Benjie Liwanag reported on Tuesday.

Limcaoco, who earned his AB Political Science degree from the Ateneo de Manila University, is the director-general of the Philippine Information Agency. According to the website of the Office of the President, Limcaoco has also held the following positions at various times: supervising secretary of NBN-4, IBC-13, RPN-9, BBS, BCS, and PNA (November 7, 2007); secretary of the Philippine Information Agency (March 1, 2006 to present); Cabinet officer for presidential engagements (March 4, 2005 to February 28, 2006); Cabinet officer for provincial events (July 30, 2004 to the present); and presidential assistant for media and religious affairs (2002 to 2004). Limcaoco also became deputy campaign manager, media director, and spokesperson of the People Power Coalition for the May 14, 2001 senatorial elections. As consultant, Limcaoco helped conceptualize the re-organization of KOMPIL II or the Kongreso ng Mamamayang Pilipino, an alliance of civil society groups that played a significant role in the EDSA 2 uprising that led to the downfall of President Joseph Estrada. He also took part in the media and special projects for the presidential campaign of Alfredo Lim. Limcaoco likewise worked for the late President Corazon Aquino as speechwriter, spokesperson, and adviser for special projects. From 1986 to 1993, Limcaoco became network manager and chief executive officer for the then People's Television Network, Inc. and chairman of the board and general manager-CEO of the Laguna Lake Development Authority. - ARCS/JV, GMANews.TV
