Bill Gates joins Twitter, gets 100K fans in 8 hours

"Hello world." With these iconic words —familiar to any computer programmer learning to use a programming language for the first time— Microsoft co-founder and former chairman Bill Gates announced to the world his presence on the Twitter social media network. His first tweet was written in the late hours of Tuesday (early Wednesday morning in the Philippines), and his Twitter feed was quickly swarmed by a flood of followers that exceeded the 100,000 mark in just eight hours. With his first tweet, Gates comes full circle as he now embraces one of the latest technological advances that was born out of the aftermath of the home computer revolution that he helped spearhead in the early to mid-1980's through his company, Microsoft. Bill Gates was welcomed into the Twitter community by its de-facto spokesperson, actor Ashton Kutcher, who boasts a following of over 4 million Twitter users. "@Bill Gates I'm happy to give you a tutorial," Kutcher joked in his feed. "thanks to you and all the other people who have welcomed me. I've got a lot to learn about Twitter but look forward to sharing more," Gates replied online. As of 3:30pm Philippine Time, Bill Gates had already exceeded 142,000 followers. - GMANews.TV
