Another earthquake jolts portions of Bicol region

A magnitude-4.8 quake was felt at Intensity II in parts of Albay Thursday night 13 hours after a magnitude-5.3 quake was felt at Intensity IV in the said province. A 9:11 a.m. report on Friday by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the latest tremor occurred at 11:02 p.m. Thursday. The quake's epicenter was traced 158 kilometers (km) northeast of Catarman, Northern Samar.

Phivolcs said no damage and aftershocks will be expected following the tremor, which was of tectonic origin. At 10:02 a.m., Thursday, a magnitude-5.3 quake that could have possibly originated from the Philippine Trench also rocked parts of Bicol. The tremor was felt at Intensity IV in Legazpi City and Camalig and Bacacay towns in Albay, and at Intensity III in Viga and Virac towns in Catanduanes. No damage was recorded in the earlier quake, located 148 km east of Virac, Catanduanes, but the Philvocs said aftershocks were expected. - ARCS/GMANews.TV
