Social media use jumped 82% in a year—Nielsen


The Nielsen Company has just released the results of a worldwide survey indicating that people spend almost six hours a month on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, an 82 percent increase over the year. The online watchdog also noted that the total traffic to social networking sites increased markedly over the past three years. Included in the survey were the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Brazil, Japan, Switzerland, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy. Facebook was the top social networking site, according to Nielsen, with 206.9 million unique visitors or 67 percent of all survey respondents.
