MManila, Calabarzon to experience rotating brownouts


(Updated 8:36 p.m.) Parts of Metro Manila and the Calabarzon region will experience rotating brownouts that might last until Monday evening, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said. In a statement, Meralco said the entire Luzon grid was placed under red alert by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) after one of their Sual units encountered generation insufficiency about 12:41 p.m. A report in GMA News' "24 Oras" said the affected areas are: Parañaque: - Sun Valley - Moonwalk - Don Bosco - Marcelo Green - San Dionisio - Don Galo - Baclaran - Tambo Pasig - Ortigas Commercial Center - Rosario - Sta. Lucia - Napico Muntinlupa - Ayala-Alabang - Brgy. Alabang Manila - Intramuros - Luneta Makati - San Antonio - Urdaneta Village - Legaspi Village - Salcedo Village - Bel-Air Village Rizal province - Cainta - San Mateo - Rodriguez The area of Pateros in Taguig will also be affected, as well as some portions of Marikina, Malabon, Valenzuela, and Navotas. The power outage will also affect the towns of Lucena, Tayabas, and Pagbilao in Quezon; Calamba in Laguna; Dasmaiñas and General Mariano Alvarez in Cavite; and Obando in Bulacan. Meralco’s statement said the outage is expected to last until 9 p.m. Monday "due to the insufficiency in the power supply." Dina Lomtan, Meralco's senior representative for external affairs, told radio dzMM that the rotating brownouts would likely last until 10 p.m., with each affected area to experience a two- to three-hour power interruption.
