Ivler to remain in hospital longer after 2nd operation

After he went under the knife again, slay suspect Jason Ivler might have to remain longer at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City where he has been confined since last week. "In the next few days, we’re hoping na mag-improve siguro (ang health condition), hindi namin masabi. Depende sa development niya," said Ivler’s attending physician, Dr. Fernando Lopez, in an interview on GMA’s Unang Hirit on Tuesday. (In the next few days, we’re hoping that his condition would improve. We can’t say when he will be discharged. It depends on the developments.) Lopez is also the head surgeon of the QMMC. Ivler underwent an operation last Monday after stitches on his abdomen opened. Last week, doctors removed Ivler’s spleen and a portion of his large intestines after he sustained gunshot wounds during a shootout with National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents. Lopez said that Ivler was also vomiting because of an infection. "May kaunting infection sa sugat. Nagkaroon ng parang hindi gumagana iyong bituka niya so nagsuka siya (He has a wound infection. His large intestine was not functioning well also, so he vomited)," Lopez said. While saying that Ivler refuses to take pain killers, Lopez said Ivler was still “a good patient" who followed doctors’ orders. Security remained tight at the hospital, with only three NBI agents allowed to guard Ivler’s room.
