Maganto, Castelo bid for Senate nixed by SC

The Supreme Court has rejected separate petitions of two senatorial aspirants questioning their disqualification by the Commission of Elections (Comelec). Retired police general Romeo Maganto and singer Anthony Castelo were permanently disqualified from the 2010 senatorial slate for failing to submit documents for the court's consideration, radio dzBB reported on Wednesday. In its resolution issued on Tuesday, the high court said the petitions of Maganto and Castelo had failed to inform the court when the poll body had issued a notice of judgment, the date they had received the final order, when their motions for reconsideration were filed, and the time they received the notice of denial. The missing details are required by the Rules of Civil Procedure, the radio report quoted the high court as saying. Maganto and Castelo, who initially submitted their certificates of candidacy as independent candidates, were disqualified by the Comelec in December for failing to prove their ability to conduct a national campaign. They were later adopted by the Marcos-led Kilusang Bagong Lipunan (KBL) as guest candidates. — Nikka Corsino/NPA, GMANews.TV
