Stephen Pollard denies anew that he coddled stepson Jason

(Updated Jan. 29 12:49 a.m.) The British stepfather of slay suspect Jason Ivler has denied anew that he coddled his stepson, even as his wife Marlene Aguilar claims that an unnamed government official is threatening to have him deported. But the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) expressed doubts against the statement of Asian Development Bank (ADB) executive Stephen Pollard, according to GMA News' Julius Segovia. "Kung ikaw nakatira sa loob ng bahay mo, dapat alam mo what is happening inside your house. ‘Yan yung naglalaro sa isipan natin (If you live in your house, you should know what is happening inside your house. That is what’s going through our minds)," said NBI-SAU chief Angelito Magno. The NBI further stressed that Pollard is not yet off the hook, adding that it would also summon Pollard's household members to verify his claims. This was Pollard's second trip to the NBI. The first was when Ivler was still being hunted by authorities two months ago. According to the GMA News report, the British ADB executive was accompanied to the NBI by his wife Marlene, who disclosed that a government official is allegedly pressuring the Department of Foreign Affairs to have her husband deported. She said that since Pollard is a ranking ADB official, such pressure could damage the country's relationship with the international community. Aguilar, however, did not name the government official. "This government official under GMA's [President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s initials] regime threatens all our international relationship all over the world." she said. "This is my home and I don't want to leave," Pollard said.

Ivler stands accused of killing Renato Victor Ebarle Jr., son of Malacañang official Renato Ebarle Sr., last Nov. 18, 2009. Witnesses claimed that on the night of the shooting, Ivler was driving a car with diplomatic plate 209003, which was later traced to Pollard. Ivler was arrested at his mother's residence in Blue Ridge Quezon City and is currently confined at the Quirino Memorial Medical Center after being wounded in a shootout with NBI agents last January 18. ‘Absurd theory' In Malacañang, deputy presidential spokesman Gary Olivar dismissed Aguilar's claim as an "absurd theory," but said he was not surprised by her actuations to defend his husband and son. He, however, reminded the public that the sentiments of Ebarle’s mother should be considered as well. “At least ‘yung anak ni Mrs. Aguilar, buhay pa 'no? Eh yung kay Usec. Ebarle patay na (At least the son of Mrs. Aguilar is still alive, isn't he? That of Usec. Ebarle is already dead)." - Aie Balagtas See/RSJ, GMANews.TV
