La Salle lady booters edge Ateneo for UAAP lead

De La Salle took the lead in the UAAP women’s football tournament after beating Ateneo, 1-0, Wednesday at the Ateneo field to finish off its first-round campaign.

The Lady Archers only needed a goal from Paula Victoria Bravo in the 44th minute to propel them to solo lead with eight points on two wins and two draws.

In the first game, defending champion University of Santo Tomas (UST) beat University of the Philippines (UP), 2-0, to occupy second spot.

Marianne Narciso got it going early for the Tigresses with a goal in the first minute before knocking in another one in the second half.

The Tigresses have seven points in the league table after two wins and a draw while the Lady Eagles have a point on a draw and two losses.

State U is down the cellar with three losses.

First round action ends on Sunday as UST takes on FEU at 1 p.m. in a rematch of last season’s championship. UP goes up against Ateneo in the 3 p.m. match-up.

A win by the Tigresses over the Lady Tamaraws will give them the top spot at the end of the first round. – GMANews.TV
