Defending men's champion University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University fortified their grip of the top two spots after winning over their respective rivals Saturday in the 72nd UAAP volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Tigers needed only 52 minutes to dispose of the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles, 25-18, 25-10, 25-18, for their 10th win against only one loss.
"Hopefully we can sustain this kind of game until the next round. Kailangan talagang mag-level-up dahil habang tumatagal, tumataas din ang laro ng mga kalaban," said Tigers coach Emil Lontoc.
Veteran hitters Hendry James Pecana, Jayson Ramos and John Paul Torres scored 10 points each to lead the Tigers to the victory which sent the Blue Eagles down to solo fourth spot with a 5-6 win-loss slate.
The Tamaraws, for their part, needed 54 minutes to demolish the Adamson Falcons, 25-17, 25-12, 25-21, for their eighth win in 10 games.
Nestor Molate topscored for the George Pascua-mentored Tamaraws with 12 points while Rodolfo Labrador chipped in 11 points in the victory, which dropped the Falcons to the cellar as they suffered their ninth loss against only two wins. - GMANews.TV
