Traffic jam due to roadwork on EDSA may last until Monday – report

Traffic headache caused by reblocking work on portions of the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) may continue to irk motorists and commuters passing through the highway's northbound lane until Monday. A report by radio dzBB's Allan Gatus on Sunday said the re-blocking, which snarled traffic in Quezon and Mandaluyong Cities, may last as late as 6 a.m. the next day. Traffic flow was jammed from the Cubao area all the way to the EDSA-Shaw Boulevard Intersection in Mandaluyong City, the report added. The roadwork on the northbound portion of EDSA started Friday night. Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Roberto Nacianceno admitted they needed to coordinate with the Department of Public Works and Highways in informing motorists in advance about such repair work. "Dapat they should be responsible to inform the public may ganoong… major repair or concrete reblocking. There was a time pinadidiyaryo ng DPWH, nakaligtaan siguro yan (The DPWH should be responsible in informing the public of such major repairs. There was a time the DPWH would even announce the repairs in newspapers. It may have forgotten to do so)," Nacianceno said in the MMDA's Sunday program on dzBB. Nacianceno said he expects to meet with representatives of the DPWH on Monday or Tuesday. But he said the road reblocking was important, adding that traffic was usually heavy in the middle and end of the month because people who get their salaries usually eat out or go shopping. - with Sophia Dedace/LBG, GMANews.TV
