Fire razes houses in slum area in Cebu's Talisay City

Fire of still undetermined origin razed at least 20 houses in a squatters' area in Talisay City in Cebu province Tuesday morning. Radio dzBB's Cebu affiliate reported that the fire, which started at 8:50 a.m. and reached the third alarm, razed 20 houses in Sitio Isla Verde in San Isidro village in Talisay City. Initial investigation showed the fire started at the house of Giselle and Carlito Lopez. It was placed under control at about 9:08 a.m. Arson investigators initially estimated the damage to property at P20,000. They are still verifying claims the fire stemmed from an electrical short circuit, or from children playing with fire. - LBG, GMANews.TV
