La Salle, Ateneo spikers boost Final Four bids

La Salle and Ateneo boosted their campaigns for the two remaining Final Four slots by scoring straight-set wins over separate foes Wednesday in the 72nd UAAP men’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
The Green Archers shellacked first-round tormentor University of the Philippines, 25-23, 25-19, 25-23, to post their seventh win against five losses.
La Salle, which was led by Chris Macasaet and John Kevin de la Vega with 14 points apiece, now occupies solo third behind early semifinalists back-to-back champion University of Sto. Tomas (10-1) and Far Eastern U (9-2).
Ateneo, for its part, crushed University of the East 31-29, 25-22, 25-18, to catch up with the Maroons at fourth place with identical 6-6 win-loss cards.
The Blue Eagles drew 16 points each from Narciso Intal Jr. and Andre Joseph Pareja as they repeated over their first-round victims.
With the loss, the Red Warriors joined National University Bulldogs and Adamson Falcons in the brink of elimination as they slipped down to 4-8 win-loss mark. - GMANews.TV
