MMDA opens 3 urinals for women along EDSA

Women needing to heed the call of nature after a long bus ride can now do so, after the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority opened three urinals for women on Friday. MMDA chair Oscar Inocentes led the inauguration of the three urinals, which are all located under MRT-3 line along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA), said GMA News' Julius Segovia over QTV Balitanghali. The event was also witnessed by the female members of the Rotary Diliman North. Two urinals were installed around EDSA and Quezon Avenue intersection, while the other one was located at the corner of EDSA and Ortigas Avenue in eastern Metro Manila.
The report said MMDA officials assured that the urinals are environment friendly and are safe from peeping toms. The green-painted urinal measures 3 by 5 meters and is equipped with lavatory, waterless toilet, and translucent roofs for energy and water conservation. Each costs P20,000, the report added. These are in contrast to some 500 "simple" urinals for men that had been placed in several areas in Metro Manila during the term of former MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando. The MMDA plans to install similar urinals for women along EDSA, depending on the feedback from users. Earlier, MMDA General Manager Roberto Nacianceno said that while the agency is not too keen on constructing urinals for homosexuals, it is thinking of building urinals for disabled people, who he said have special needs. - with Aie Balagtas-See/LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV
