Raid on Ampatuan aide's home in Davao yields arms, ammo

Four different types of firearms and several rounds of live ammunition were seized on Friday from the house of an aide of suspended Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Governor Zaldy Ampatuan in Davao City. The items were recovered from the residence of Donna Moreno, Ampatuan’s executive assistant, during a raid on her house in Bago Gallera village Friday morning, Chief Superintendent Pedro Tango, southern Mindanao police director, said. Seized were a .22-caliber rifle, a 9-mm. Glock pistol, an air rifle, spare parts for an M-16 rifle and several rounds of assorted live ammunition. Arturo Moreno Sr., brother-in-law of Ampatuan’s aide, was also taken into police custody after the incident after he failed to present necessary documents for the possession of the .22-caliber rifle. Moreno Sr. was to be presented before the city prosecutor later in the day for inquest proceedings on the incident, police said. Ampatuan is currently facing rebellion charges for his alleged involvement in the November 23 massacre in Ampatuan town in Maguindanao province, which claimed the lives of 57 people. Zaldy’s brother, Datu Unsay mayor Andal Jr., allegedly masterminded the killings. - Andreo Calonzo/RSJ, RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
