"Taxi after Dark" (Documentary by Jay Taruc)

Episode on February 8, 2010 Monday night, after Saksi Do you often ride taxis at night? For some, taking a cab seems the safest way to get home after dark. But for those with bitter experiences in the hands of notorious cabbies, riding a taxi can be traumatic. We’ve heard of taxis with dubiously fast meters, and drivers who charge more than the prescribed rate, but there are other more disturbing tales about riding taxis, especially after dark. Recently, a young woman’s horrific experience in the hands of a taxi driver made the rounds in a social networking site. According to the victim’s account, she took a taxi on her way home from a night out with friends. As she neared the street where she lived, the taxi suddenly took a wrong turn. When she instructed the driver to turn back, he grabbed her by the neck and began beating her up as she tried to pry the door open. She was eventually thrown out of the cab, but as she struggled to pull herself together, she realized she was covered in blood. She had a large wound on her head which was dripping with blood, soaking her clothes and the pavement. Good Samaritans took her to a hospital to be treated. After the terrifying ordeal, the victim now seeks justice. But with little leads on who and where the taxi driver is, it’s easy to lose hope. Fate seems to be on her side however, as a witness comes forward to help solve the case. Jay Taruc investigates tales of taxis after dark this Monday on I-Witness.

Madalas ka bang mag-taxi sa gabi? Para sa ilan, mas ligtas ang mag-taxi kaysa gumamit ng ibang pampbulikong sasakyan sa alanganing oras. Pero para sa may mapait na karanasan sa kamay ng mga nanamantalang taxi driver, nakababahala rin ang pagsakay sa taxi habang lumalalim ang gabi. Matagal nang problema ang mabilis na metro ng taxi o kaya ang paghingi ng dagdag sa pasahe. Ngunit kamakailan lang, kumalat ang balita ng ibang klase ng pangaabuso na ginawa umano ng ilang taxi driver. Nariyan ang panghoholdap, pangmamanyak at kung ano-ano pa. Nito lamang Enero, kumalat sa isang social networking site ang nakagigtimbal na kwento ng isang biktima umano ng pambubugbog ng isang taxi driver. Nangyari ang krimen malapit lamang sa kanilang bahay. Umano’y pagtatalo lamang sa direksyon ang pinagmulan ng lahat. Binugbog siya ng driver hanggang siya’y duguan na’t puno ng sugat ang katawan. Ipinaskil din ng biktima ang larawan ng kaniyang mukha na tadtad ng pasa. Naghihilom man ang sugat sa kaniyang mukha, hindi naman nababawasan ang sakit sa kaniyang puso sa tuwing naaalala ang gabing iyon. Nawawalan na ng pag-asa ang biktima na mahuhuli pa ang salarin. Ngunit tila mabait ang tadhana sa kaniya, dahil isang saksi ang bumago sa kaniyang kapalaran. Samahan si Jay Taruc sa pagtuklas ng misteryo ng mga nabiktima sa pagsakay ng taxi ‘pag sapit ng dilim.
