DPWH apologizes for new weekend traffic headache on EDSA

The Department of Public Works and Highways apologized to motorists and commuters on Saturday after causing another traffic mess with its repair work on Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA). But DPWH Metro Manila head Edilberto Tayao also appealed for understanding, saying the work was necessary as part of their "maintenance activities." "Pasensya na po [pero] kailangan natin ayusin ang kalsadang ganito (We ask for understanding as we really need to do these repairs)," Tayao said in an interview on dzRH radio. DPWH workers resumed re-blocking work on EDSA starting 10 p.m. Friday, this time along the northbound lane in front of Armed Forces of the Philippines headquarters at Camp Aguinaldo. Last week, the DPWH received flak for doing similar repair work in the busy Cubao area, causing long traffic jams. Tayao said they have already scheduled the repair work so it will not affect traffic during weekdays. "Ginagawa natin Biyernes nang gabi at binubuksan sa 4 a.m. ng Lunes (We try to do repair work from Friday night until 4 a.m. Monday)," he said. - LBG, GMANews.TV
