Stray bullet kills 5-year-old in Negros Occidental

A stray bullet killed a five-year-old girl in Negros Occidental province this week, a Negros-based news site reported late Friday. The Visayan Daily Star said Lea Leonor, 5, was hit while sleeping in her house in Pandan village in Pontevedra town last Tuesday night. A separate report on Visayas-based Bombo Radyo said Leonor died after being hit near the buttock; the bullet pierced through her abdomen and hit some of her internal organs. Injured in the incident was one of the targets of the attack identified as Joel Lucton, 21, who was hit in the buttocks. Police are now looking for three men wearing bonnets during the attack and armed with 9-mm and cal-.45 pistols, who shot Lucton and his brother Nonoy. Initial investigation showed Lucton and his brother were fleeing from the gunmen, and that the shooting stemmed from an old grudge. A police team recovered 10 empty shells of 9-mm and cal-.45 pistols at the crime scene. - LBG, GMANews.TV
