Secretary Bello quits, to attend next Cabinet meet

Another Cabinet member has turned in his resignation to go on the campaign trail for a Senate seat in the country’s first automated elections this May. Cabinet secretary Silvestre Bello III said his resignation will take effect on Wednesday – a day after the start of the campaign period – so he can attend the Cabinet meeting on Tuesday. “By February 10, Secretary Bello will become private citizen Bello. My resignation will take effect February 10. I scheduled it so because I want to attend my last Cabinet meeting Tuesday so I can thank the president for giving me the chance to serve," Bello said on government-run dzRB radio Saturday. Bello is running for senator under the administration Lakas-Kampi-CMD party. Right thing "Di tama mangangampanya ako at sumisweldo ako sa gobyerno habang nangangampanya ako samantalang Cabinet secretary pa ako(It wouldn't be right if I go on the campaign trail while continuing to receive my salary as a Cabinet member)," he added. However, Bello admitted he was already meeting with officials of the Lakas-Kampi-CMD party Saturday morning to discuss their campaign plans. He said Mrs. Arroyo has not informed him who his replacement will be, but said no one appears interested in the post because it entails much work. Next Cabinet meet in Bulacan Bello said the venue of the next Cabinet meeting will be at the Luzon Urban Beltway, likely “somewhere in Bulacan." He said Mrs. Arroyo will focus on her “achievable projects" under her Luzon Urban Beltway program, which focuses on building fram-to-market-roads in hopes of giving jobs to farmers.
