Jong Uichico has an illustrious coaching career. He has won a combined nine championships while handling the San Miguel Beermen and the Ginebra Gin Kings. In between those championships, the mild-mannered Uichico has experienced two walkouts – one against Yeng Guaio’s Red Bull squad and the latest against Chot Reyes’ Talk 'N Text team.

But for Uichico, the second one is the more humiliating with the Tropang Texters
walking out and refusing to comeback, thus forfeiting the game. And for the first time, Uichico was in a fiery mood when he answered questions from the media. "Am I happy with the win? Of course I am.
Para kang pumunta sa giyera na hindi na kailangan bumaril dahil surrender agad yung kalaban mo," said Uichico. Uichico and Ginebra alternate governor Robert Non showed their displeasure on the Tropang Texters’ decision to walkout of the court, with still one minute left in the first period and Ginebra holding on to a 27-20 lead. Uichico said that based on the 18-game statistics
released by the PBA prior to the playoffs, Talk ‘N Text is third based on committing fouls with 27.17 per game while Barangay Ginebra only had a 25.67 average. Uichico, who served as assistant coach to Chot Reyes in the all-pro national team bankrolled by San Miguel Corporation in 2005, explained that Talk 'N Text players are rarely fouled in the game with 24.61 average.
There are ways to voice their displeasure, if there is reason to do so, not finishing the game is not one of them. It is unjust to the fans, unfair to the PBA organization, unprofessional for a team like Talk 'N Text and unsportsmanlike.
– Ginebra alternate governor Robert Non
"Its maybe because Talk 'N Text tends to shoot more from the outside than play inside in the lane as compared to Ginebra," said Uichico, who also cited that the Kings play aggressively inside and that is the reason why the team is the third most fouled squad in the PBA with 26.89 per game. "The statistics do not lie, too. As far back as in the elims, Talk 'N Text has the tendency to foul more and they are also the least fouled. This is not only in the case of Ginebra but all other teams in the league," said Uichico. "(Also) Ginebra uses its fouls wisely to preserve on our personnel since we had a depleted lineup in the eliminations. The reason why we were the most fouled team is because we attack the basket more and draw more fouls in the process," he added. "So it is totally unfair for Chot and Talk 'N Text to claim that we are being
favored. It is a claim bordering on fiction. We play with our hearts out much more than they do and they know it. And maybe that is the reason why we have more fans than them," he said. "We play fairly and with lots of passion regardless of the outcome of the game." Curiously, Ginebra, then known as Añejo, was the first team to walkout in the PBA during Game 6 of the 1990 First Conference against Shell, which the Turbochargers won via forfeiture. The incident cost Añejo, then handled by the legendary Robert Jaworski, P500,000 in fines. Red Bull, handled by Guiao, was the last team to walkout in their 2006 Fiesta Conference semis against San Miguel Beer. Talk 'N Text's decision to walkout was triggered by Reyes' accusations that the Texters were not getting the fair end of the calls.

Fans were angered with the Texters' move as they sought ticket refunds. Internet sites, including the PBA’s own forum, were filled with comments chiding the Manny V. Pangilinan-owned franchise. "If Chot (Reyes) is saying that they are not getting the right calls based on statistics, then he is only quoting the statistics that he wants to serve his and his team’s ends and as a lame excuse to justify the walkout," said Non. "There are ways to voice their displeasure, if there is reason to do so, not finishing the game is not one of them," added Non."It is unjust to the fans, unfair to the PBA organization, unprofessional for a team like Talk 'N Text and unsportsmanlike." "It’s this simple. If the most fouling team (Talk 'N Text) meets the most fouled team (Ginebra), then that is what happens. It all boils down to strategy by the coaches, and not what they are claiming about the calls which we don’t want to dignify any more."
