The Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) have tapped 49 foreign service posts to facilitate postal voting for the upcoming polls that is set to start on April 1.
The Comelec, DFA, and the Philippine Postal Corporation (Philpost) signed last Tuesday a memorandum of agreement stating that 49 foreign service posts will implement postal voting that would cover more than 100,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
The government agencies, however, have yet to make public a list of the accredited foreign service posts.
Republic Act 9189 or the Overseas Absentee Voting Act provides for voting by mail in a maximum of three countries with well-developed mailing systems.
Based on Comelec data, a total of 138,113 of the 589,830 registered voters abroad will vote by mail in the upcoming polls. – JV, GMANews.TV
