Campaign posters banned in public schools

Election campaign posters will be banned from walls and other properties of public elementary and high schools when the campaign period starts this Tuesday. Education Secretary Jesli Lapus made this clear to supporters of candidates running in the country’s first automated elections on May 10, dzXL radio reported. Lapus reminded candidates and their supporters that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has an existing ban of campaign materials in public school premises. Besides, he said, many of the schools will be used as polling precincts, and their teachers will serve as members of the Board of Election Inspectors. Teachers, he added, need to be nonpartisan. — GMANews.TV
