350 families lost homes in Caloocan fire — NDCC

At least 350 families lost their homes in an eight-and-a-half-hour fire that razed a residential area in Caloocan City on Saturday night.

The National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) said the fire, which started at 6:25 p.m., had reached the general alarm before it was put out at 3 a.m. on Sunday.

In a report, the NDCC said the blaze had affected the interior part of the Philippine National Railways Compound along Samson Road in Caloocan City.

While no one was reported hurt, the fire destroyed 300 houses made of light materials, and caused some P5 million in damages to property.

The Philippine National Red Cross Caloocan Chapter provided rice porridge and food packs to affected families, while the Barangay 73 council provided two tents for the families.

On Saturday night, dzBB radio reported that firefighters had a hard time getting to the site because of narrow alleys.

Some residents were reportedly fighting with firefighters for hoses to spray water on their burning homes. — GMANews.TV
