1 killed, 2 hurt in downtown Manila shooting spree

A man was killed while two people were injured after two motorcycle-riding men went on a shooting spree in Manila’s Sta. Cruz district before dawn Wednesday. Radio dzBB’s Roland Bola reported one of the suspects was also rushed to a hospital after bystanders caught up with him and beat him up. The incident occurred near the corner of Nicolas and Yakal Street in Sta. Cruz. Killed in the incident was Jesus Tamayo, a resident who was shot in the chest. Wounded were village councilor Richard Panaligan, who was shot in the foot; and a six-year-old girl identified only as Angelica, who was hit in the leg. Panaligan and Angelica were rushed to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center for treatment. Initial police investigation showed that local watchmen flagged down the men on the motorcycle for allegedly acting suspiciously. The men sped off but returned after a few minutes, and fired away with a 9-mm pistol. But bystanders managed to catch up with one of the motorcycle-riding suspects, and beat him. The injured suspect, who was not immediately identified, was rushed to the Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center as well. - LBG, GMANews.TV
