Villar: Shame campaign vs Lacson unnecessary

STA. ROSA, Laguna - The posting of “wanted posters" bearing the picture of Senator Panfilo Lacson is unnecessary, Nacionalista Party standard-bearer Senator Manuel Villar Jr. said on Thursday. Villar made the statement after a meeting in Laguna with Sta. Rosa town Mayor Arlene Arcillas-Nazareno on the third day of the his presidential campaign trail. Hindi na kailangan iyon. Nasa diyaryo na. Naka-headline na (The posting of wanted posters is not needed. We already see him in the newspaper headlines)," he said. On the other hand, Villar assured that should he win the presidency in the May 10 polls, Lacson would have a fair shake in facing the double murder charges against him. "There will be no special privileges for Sen. Ping, but there will also be no special prosecution. I will let justice take its course," he said. The 'shame campaign' against Lacson is being spearheaded by the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) of Dante Jimenez. Lacson, who is facing murder charges for the November 2001 killing of publicist Salvador Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito, is one of the main accusers of Villar on the C-5 Road extension project controversy that had fueled a Senate ethics probe against Villar. The Department of Justice has already considered Lacson a fugitive for hiding from authorities after a Manila court issued an arrest warrant against him last January 7. Lacson has repeatedly denied involvement in the twin killings. Calamba campaign Villar and his runningmate Sen. Loren Legarda decided to start their campaign in Laguna province, particularly in Calamba because, according to them, it is the “birthplace of heroism." Philippine National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal was born in Calamba. Last Wednesday, Villar faced top businessmen from the Makati Business Club at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City to present his economic platforms and plans should he win in the presidential race. Despite having poor preference among the business club's members, Villar decided to show up at the second tranche of the MBC presidential candidate series. A survey of MBC members in December showed that Villar was the least liked presidential candidate compared to Aquino who was ranked first and followed by Teodoro.
