Cops beef up security in Chinatown for Lunar New Year


With just a day to go before the Lunar New Year, Manila police have beefed up security in Manila's Chinatown district for the occasion. Radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported the Manila Police District sent additional uniformed and plainclothes personnel to Chinatown to watch out against criminal elements who may take advantage of the festivities. Acting Manila Police District head Chief Superintendent Rodolfo Magtibay said he deployed motorcycle and mobile patrol units to make sure the preparations for the Lunar New Year go smoothly. Magtibay said he is wary of thieves and snatchers taking advantage of the ongoing preparations, including shopping by Chinese Filipinos for popular food and good-luck items. The Lunar Year of the Tiger will start this Sunday. - LBG, GMANews.TV
