Under cloudy skies, Manila turns red on Valentine’s Day

Red was the color of the day early Sunday, as people marked Valentine's Day by wearing red and going out on dates. In Manila, radio dzBB's Lito Laparan reported that many youths wearing red converged at the Luneta park as early as 6 a.m. to mark their special day. Many women were seen carrying bouquets of roses, the report added. On the other hand, taxi drivers cruised the city's streets, anticipating couples who will go out on dates. In Manila's Chinatown district, red was doubly significant as Chinese Filipinos welcomed the Year of the Tiger. Since Saturday night, firecrackers were lighted and festive activities were held in Chinatown to mark the Lunar New Year. Meanwhile, state weather forecasters said the weather will be cloudy with passing light rains due to a cold front affecting Northern Luzon. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Northern Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with passing light rains while the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. "Moderate to strong winds coming from southeast will prevail over Northern Luzon and coming from northeast over the eastern section of the country and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate blowing from the northeast with slight to moderate seas," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin. - LBG, GMANews.TV
