Montiel makes quick work of RP’s Morales

Gone in two minutes and six seconds. That’s how fast Mexico's Fernando Montiel disposed of the Philippines’ Ciso “Kid Terible" Morales in retaining his WBO bantamweight title Saturday at the Las Vegas Hilton (Sunday in Manila). Montiel hardly broke a sweat in dashing the young prospect’s hope of joining the ranks of Filipino world champions, unleashing a single left hook to the body that had Morales folding on all fours with 54 seconds left in the first round. According to FightFan.com, Morales “went down in a world of pain" and was subsequently counted out, absorbing his first devastating setback after 14 straight wins. The champion Montiel hiked his record to 40-2-2 and chalked up his 30th KO. Aside from his inexperience, Morales' weight woes hastened his downfall against Montiel. The Filipino fighter had to shed off 12 pounds in six days to make the 118-pound limit against the Mexican champ. - GMANews.TV
