Fire razes 100 houses in Lapu-Lapu, kills woman

An 82-year-old woman was killed while at least 100 houses were destroyed in a fire that razed a residential area in Cebu province on Saturday. Radio dzXL reported on Sunday that Cirila Payac, 82, was trapped inside the house of her son Joselito at Sitio Ihawan, Pusok village in Lapu-lapu City. Initial investigation showed Payac was alone in the house when the fire broke out shortly after noon on Saturday. Arson investigators were still looking into whether an electrical short circuit, a mosquito coil left unattended, or a cooking stove in Payac's house had caused the fire.
