Comelec warns candidates vs oversized ads on buses

The Commission on Elections on Sunday warned candidates against placing large stickers on public buses, which it said violates election laws. But Comelec spokesman James Arthur Jimenez admitted it is all right for a candidate's stickers or campaign materials to be placed on private vehicles. "Private vehicles are personal property, so we will not go after them. But we can go after candidates who take paid ad spaces, including those on buses," Jimenez told dzBB radio in Filipino.

He said these include roving billboards on public utility vehicles such as buses and jeepneys, which are not considered common poster areas. Besides, big stickers found on the back of buses are way bigger than the approved size for campaign materials, Jimenez said. He added that streamers on vehicles should not exceed 3x8 feet while posters should not be bigger than 2x3 feet. "Those are prohibited because they go beyond the approved sizes," he said.
