Police: 12 dead, 15 hurt in Cagayan road accident


(Update 2 – 2:19 PM) BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya – Twelve people were confirmed dead while 15 others were hurt after a trailer truck collided with a passenger jeepney along the national highway in Piat town, Cagayan province early Monday, police said. The truck’s driver lost control after the vehicle’s tire blew up, Cagayan Region police head Chief Superintendent Roberto Damian said in an initial report. The truck, bound for Cagayan Robinson Sugar Milling Corporation in Piat, then smashed into an oncoming jeepney bound for Tuguegarao City from Santo Niño town. The incident occurred about 4:30 a.m.in Villa Rey village in Piat town, Damian said. All twelve fatalities came from the jeepney. These are Rosel Valiente, Eduardo Oarde, Arman Cadelina, Fatima Daliuag, Pepe Artiga, Jinky Ramos, Linsy Ramirez, Rogelio Ibarra, Rodamae Galisa and Randy Dumas, all residents of Santo Niño, according to Damian. Two other fatalities Faustino and Corazon Arquero were residents of Burgos, Ilocos Sur. The driver of the jeepney (BVM-337) was identified as one Noli Nogeras while the truck (TXU-276) was driven by a certain Joey Salvador, a resident of Isabela province. Fifteen injured victims, some of whom included the truck’s passengers, are currently being treated at St. Paul Hospital in Tuguegarao City. - GMANews.TV
