Batangas councilor shot dead in cockpit

An unidentified armed man shot dead a councilor of Lemery town in Batangas province inside a cockpit Monday afternoon. Radio dzXL reported Melencio Vidal, 40, was shot in the cockpit in Sitio Pusaw, Tamayo village in Calaca town at 3:30 p.m. Batangas police chief Senior Superintendent Alberto Supapo cited reports reaching him indicating Vidal was going down the stairs of the Tamayo Cockpit when the suspect approached him and fired at him with a cal-.45 pistol. Vidal was shot in the head and was declared dead on arrival at the Lady of Caysasay Hospital. The gunman casually walked away after the shooting.
