Poll machine demo set for Manila residents Wednesday

To raise awareness among voters, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) will bring the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines to Manila residents on Wednesday for a demonstration. In a statement released Tuesday, Michael Dioneda, director of the Comelec National Capital Region (NCR), said a motorcade is set around Manila's University Belt and Sampaloc area. "The motorcade aims to raise awareness among the voters, especially among the youth and students, on the automated elections system," said Dioneda. He said that the participating vehicles will assemble at 8 a.m. in front of the Comelec main office in Intramuros, Manila and will end up 10 a.m. at the Unibersidad de Manila (UdM), where a forum and demonstration of the PCOS machines will be held. The May automated polls is a first for the country, for which poll machine supplier Smartmatic-TIM has committed to manufacture and deliver 82,200 PCOS units. As of January 15, there are already a total number of 50,723,734 registered voters, 37,422 voting centers, and 76,340 clustered precincts.. - Kimberly Jane Tan/KBK, GMANews.TV
