Pinoy chosen as Frisco showbiz commissioner

A Filipino-American community leader has recently been chosen as entertainment commissioner of San Francisco City in California, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported through a press release posted on its website on Tuesday. Citing a report from the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, the DFA said Alfonso Perez Jr.’s appointment was made by City Mayor Gavin Newsom in December 2009. The seven-member commission he will head has overall oversight of San Francisco’s entertainment industry and has the power and duty to accept, review and conduct hearings for entertainment-related permit applications. Perez, as a member of the San Francisco-Manila Sister Committee, was also part of the Cultural and Trade Mission to the Philippines on February 9 to 12. The Consulate-General congratulated Perez for making the Filipino-American community proud with his latest appointment. “As an active leader of the Filipino-American community, Mr. Perez represents the best qualities among the younger generation of Filipino Americans. He has shown leadership and initiative in all of his undertakings for the benefit of our community," said Philippine Consul General to San Francisco Marciano Paynor Jr.—JV, GMANews.TV
