Magnitude-5.3 earthquake rocks General Santos City


A magnitude-5.3 quake rocked General Santos City shortly after midnight Friday, with state seismologists warning of possible aftershocks. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was recorded at 12:18 a.m., with the epicenter at 76 km southeast of General Santos City in the southern Philippines. It said the quake was tectonic and was felt at Intensity IV in General Santos City. While Phivolcs said no damage was expected, it said aftershocks were possible. The United States Geological Survey added the epicenter was 75 km east-southeast of General Santos City; 140 km south of Davao; 1,110 km south-southeast of Manila; or 2,490 km east-northeast of Jakarta, Indonesia. — LBG, GMANews.TV
