While the nation's attention is focused on measles, dengue cases have spawned fears among Negros Occidental province's officials, who noted a 103-percent increase in the first two months of 2010, compared to the same period last year. Provincial health officer Luisa Efren, in her report to Governor Isidro Zayco, said the cases were recorded from January 1 to February 13. The report, excerpts of which were posted on the Visayan Daily Star, noted 183 dengue cases so far this year compared to 90 last year. A breakdown showed Bacolod City had 45 cases, Cadiz City 30, Silay City 22, Sagay City 21, EB Magalona town 9, Escalante City 8, La Carlota City 7, Talisay City 7, Bago City 6, San Carlos City 4, Victorias City 4, Calatrava 3, Hinigaran 3, Manapla 3, Toboso 3, Himamaylan 2, Isabela 2, Kabankalan City 1, La Castellana 1, and San Enrique 1.
