Arroyo to attend Washington nuclear summit in April

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is set to fly to the United States to attend the Global Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, DC. Although no additional details have been provided as of posting time, the Office of the President has already released media invitations for the event, which will take place from April 12 to 13. Initially set for March, the summit was moved to April this year, which will be attended by 40 nations and international organizations, the website of the Washington, DC-based Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation said. The United States will host the summit, as part of the nation’s move to fulfill President Barack Obama’s strategy to address nuclear threats, the same website said. “The Global Nuclear Security Summit will focus on safeguarding against nuclear terrorism by bolstering international cooperation and improving security for nuclear materials worldwide," the website said. “The summit will provide an opportunity to discuss practical ways to identify and disrupt illicit trade in nuclear materials." - RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
