Kris hoping for Danding support for Noynoy

Celebrity Kris Aquino has not lost hope that her uncle, business tycoon Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco Jr., will support the presidential bid of her brother Senator Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III. Interviewed on the sidelines of Noynoy's campaign rally in Zamboanga City Wednesday night, Kris – who has endorsed products of Cojuangco's San Miguel Corp. – said she had tried to court Danding's support for her brother's presidential bid. "I’ve tried [to ask him for support]. Di ba makapal ang mukha ko (Don't I have guts?)" she said, laughing. "I have seen him in person because we do have a good relationship." Kris said she is hoping Danding's daughter Lisa Cojuangco-Cruz – who is campaigning for Noynoy and running mate Senator Manuel "Mar" Roxas II – can convince the business tycoon. Cojuangco-Cruz will be campaigning with Kris in Iloilo for Noynoy on Thursday. "Sana pag makumbinsi niya mga magulang niya (I hope she'll also be able to convince her parents)," Kris said. Cojuangco's wife Gretchen had said she was open to supporting "anybody but Gibo," referring to administration bet Gilberto Teodoro Jr, a nephew of Danding. Teodoro, whose mother Mercedes is Cojuangco's sister, had left Cojuangco's Nationalist People's Coalition in favor of administration party Lakas-Kampi-CMD, which eventually chose Gibo as its standard bearer. Danding, whom Forbes listed as the 7th richest man in the Philippines in 2009, had a strained relationship with Kris Aquino's father, Ninoy, and mother, Cory Aquino after Martial Law. Cory is Danding's cousin. Danding was part of the Ferdinand Marcos dictatorship, which was toppled by the popular uprising in February 1986, catapulting Cory to power. — LBG, GMANews.TV
