Cops to invite Sandra Cam to shed light on jueteng whistleblower's murder

With still no major lead after nearly two weeks, police will seek to interview a jueteng whistleblower over the killing of her fellow anti-jueteng witness last February 28. Radio dzBB's Denver Trinidad reported on Thursday that police will invite Sandra Cam to see if she can provide leads on the killing of Wilfredo "Boy" Mayor. Pasay City police chief Senior Superintendent Raul Petrasanta said the agency is also tracing people who Mayor last talked to before he was killed. Motorcycle-riding men shot dead Mayor in southern Metro Manila before dawn of February 28. Earlier this week, Cam and at least four other whistleblowers called on lawmakers to pass a measure protecting people who “blow the whistle" on government wrongdoing. “If they were able to kill Mayor, they can also do it to all of us," said Cam at a Catholic Church-backed forum. She voiced fears more whistleblowers may be killed before President Arroyo’s term ends June 30. “Gloria has few months left (as president)… within three months one of us might also get killed," she added. Mayor and Cam had testified before the Senate on payoffs from jueteng, a popular but illegal numbers game. They linked members of the First Family to the payoffs, but the First Family denied the claims. Cam and other whistleblowers expressed their security concerns following the death of Mayor. All of them are members of the Whistleblowers Association, a group of witnesses who have testified in several investigations on various scandals that have hounded the Arroyo administration. With the brutal killing of Mayor, Cam related that they all the more feel incapacitated and are now fearful of their lives. But the group stressed they will stand firm on what they have said in the past and hopes that the people will remember what they did in pursuit of good governance. “We will not put to waste the death of Mayor for telling the truth. We will stand firm on what we said," Cam said. - LBG, RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
