Batangas board member wounded, guards kill gunman


A member of the Batangas provincial board was seriously wounded while his suspected assailant, identified as an Army private, was killed in Batangas City late Thursday. Rushed to the Batangas Regional Hospital in critical condition was Herminigildo Dolor, former mayor of Bauan town in Batangas, according to a radio dxZL report. The shooting incident occurred at about 4 p.m. inside the provincial capitol in Ibaba village in Batangas City. Initial investigation showed that Dolor had just attended a session of the provincial council and was talking to three women when the gunman sneaked up from behind and fired at him, hitting him in the back. Dolor's son is incumbent Bauan Mayor Ryan Dolor, who is running for reelection under the Liberal Party. The suspect, initially identified as Pfc. Jonatan Pagaspas of the Philippine Army, was killed by responding provincial capitol guards. —JMA/JV, GMANews.TV
