Rotating brownouts hit M. Manila, 6 provinces

Metro Manila and six neighboring provinces in Luzon have been experiencing a series of one-hour rotational brownouts since Friday morning. In an advisory posted on its Website, Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said affected areas are homes and establishments it is servicing in Metro Manila, as well as in the provinces of Batangas, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, and Rizal. The power distributor said the rotating power outages are "due to the insufficient generation power capacity of the power generation suppliers."

The brownouts are going to be experienced in Batangas between 12 noon and 2 p.m.; in Quezon province between 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; and in Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal between 12 noon and 4 p.m. In Bulacan and Metro Manila, the brownouts are going to happen between 12 noon and 7 p.m. Meralco added that the brownout schedule posted on their Website is still subject to change without prior notice. — Carmela Lapeña and Mark Merueñas/LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV
