Kidnapped Indian national rescued in Laguna


An Indian national abducted two days ago has been rescued by authorities in a hideout in Laguna, but his kidnappers remain at large, the provincial police chief said Friday. Remmi Kumar Chonkria, an Indian money lender from Nagcarlan town, was rescued by police early Thursday in a shanty house in Brgy. Concepcion, San Pablo City, Laguna, Senior Superintendent Manolito Labador of the Laguna Provincial Police Office told the media Friday. Labador added however that although the victim was rescued, his four kidnappers who remain unidentified as of posting time managed to escape from authorities during the raid of the hideout. Chonkria was abducted on Wednesday morning while collecting cash payments from clients in San Pablo City, the provincial police chief said. According to Labador, the abductors held the victim at gunpoint, dragged him to a car, and eventually demanded a ransom of P20 million from Chonkria’s relatives. Chonkria was brought to the provincial police station for briefing upon his rescue. Police are currently using materials recovered in the hideout, including a cellular phone and a wallet containing documents owned by a certain Aaron Borbe, to locate and pursue the kidnappers. - Andreo C.
