Jueteng whistleblower Cam gives cops leads on Mayor’s killing

Police investigation into the Feb. 28 killing of jueteng whistleblower Wilfredo “Boy" Mayor got a boost on Friday after the victim’s fellow witness Sandra Cam showed up to provide them added leads. But radio dzBB reported that despite the information Cam provided, police were still left groping for more definitive leads on the motive behind the killing. Police had invited Cam to shed light on the case. Mayor was gunned down in an ambush in southern Metro Manila before dawn of February 28. Cam said Mayor had crossed paths with local influential personalities in the Bicol Region, boosting the theory that a public works scam could be behind the murder. Earlier, retired Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz, a staunch anti-gambling advocate, had said Mayor was set to name lawmakers in the public works scam before being gunned down. The First Family denied the claims. Police said that with the continued lack of clear leads, they still cannot discount all possible theories behind the killing. — LBG, GMANews.TV
