DFA, Comelec conduct postal vote training in LA, Madrid

With barely two months to go before the May 10 elections, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and Commission on Elections (Comelec) conducted trainings on overseas absentee voting for Filipinos in Los Angeles in California and in Madrid, Spain. The DFA Overseas Absentee Voting Secretariat (OAVS) and Comelec Committee on Overseas Absentee Voting (COAV) focused on postal voting for electoral boards deputized by the poll body. A total of 128,039 overseas absentee voters are expected to cast their votes by mail in the May 2010 elections, according to the DFA. A DFA statement said the training in Los Angeles was for the 12 Philippine Embassies and Consulates General in the Americas. Twenty-seven people participated in the forum, four of whom would be for members of the Special Board of Canvassers. The training in Madrid, on the other hand, was for the 17 Philippine Embassies and Consulates General in Europe, and were participated by 47 Foreign Service personnel, 14 of whom would serve as chairpersons of the Special Board of Canvassers. Both trainings lasted until March 13, the DFA said. - KBK, GMANews.TV
