Kidapawan wants elderly spared from long queue in precincts

KIDAPAWAN CITY — The Sangguniang Panlungsod of North Cotabato is asking the Commission on Elections to spare senior citizens and differently abled persons from the long queue in the precincts during the May 10 elections. Vice Mayor Joseph Evangelista said the old and the differently abled people should be given preferential treatment in the elections, considering that there should be expected bigger crowds in the precincts this coming elections. The city council passed Resolution No. 10-070 during it session last Thursday for its request for the Comelec. In passing the resolution, the city council called on Comelec chairman Jose Melo to come up with a memorandum circular directing its personnel in the precincts to prioritize senior citizens and differently abled people in the balloting. Evangelista said that these two sectors might get harmed in the thick crowd, considering that in some clustered precincts, over a thousand voters will be fighting it out. - Malu Cadelina Manar/RSJ, GMANews.TV
